FAQs

Why is the JTA launching this Fare Modification Pilot Program?

The Fare Modification Pilot Program is an opportunity for the JTA to give back to the community, to examine the effect of fare reduction on ridership, collect and examine ridership data and trends, give some cost savings back to our customers, and gather feedback from the community. We believe public engagement about our services is important and it enables us to make informed decisions in the future. Based on transit research and our own internal analysis, lowering fares typically encourages more people to ride. We expect to see returning riders who may have left during or after the pandemic, as well as new customers who find the reduced fares more affordable.

How long is the pilot program going to be in place?

Six months. The pilot program begins February 1 and ends July 31.

What happens after the 6 month pilot program?

JTA will be using the ridership data and feedback from our customers during the pilot program to determine future rates, routes and services.

Is the JTA discontinuing paratransit services?

No. The JTA will continue to provide Connexion paratransit services as required by federal law.

What changes will be made to paratransit services in the pilot program?

The JTA is reducing the cost of Connexion from $3.00 to $2.00 as part of the Fare Modification Pilot Program.

What improvements have been made to the Connexion service? Is it reliable?

Over the last 5 years, the JTA has made significant improvements to our Connexion service, increasing reliability and on time performance, expanding and upgrading the Connexion fleet with brand new vehicles, and improving the rider experience across the 762 square miles we serve.
