The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) and its System Development & Capital Projects division announce the completion of the newest JTAMobilityWorks project.
“After two years of planning, we are excited to close the book on yet another JTAMobilityWorks project,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer, Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr. “This project gives residents in the McDuff Avenue and 5th Street area long overdue improvements to their neighborhood, making it safer for all. I am proud of the work by the JTA staff, our Prime contractor Maer and all of our subcontractors who made this project a reality.”
The McDuff Avenue and 5th Street project will give residents a safer and wider street, with a three-lane curbed roadway from Melson Avenue to Huron Street. Other improvements include new sidewalks on both sides of the street, bike lanes and improved drainage. The new sidewalks are also ADA compliant, increasing mobility for those who need it the most.
Homeowners also received new driveways with the installation of new sidewalks. And in some cases, select residents saw repaired fences, new mailboxes, or access ramps further enhancing the mobility of the neighborhood.
A ribbon cutting ceremony to officially mark the completion of the project is set to take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022 at James Weldon Johnson College Preparatory Middle School.
JTAMobilityWorks is program within the System Development & Capital Projects division designed to complete projects funded by the extension of the Local Option Gas Tax. By the end of its lifespan, the JTA will have completed 13 roadway projects in 14 mobility corridors throughout the City of Jacksonville.
These projects are a key component of the Authority’s five-year strategic plan, Mobility Optimization through Vision and Excellence (MOVE) 2027. To learn more about other JTAMobilityWorks projects within MOVE2027 plan, visit https://www.jtafla.com/projects/move2027/.
