(Jacksonville, FL – November 7, 2024) The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) today unveiled new art installments at seven shelters: three at the Soutel Hub and four other shelters along the NW Corridor.
The new art was chosen from submissions by local artists as part of JTA’s public art initiative and is part of the Northwest Jacksonville Corridor Improvements through JTA’s MobilityWorks 2.0 program, which will enhance the transit user experience for underserved communities in Northwest Jacksonville by improving amenities at 111 bus stops. Improvements are focused on safety and accessibility, including enhanced lighting, ADA upgrades, real-time digital information with the goal of providing equitable connections to destinations in the community, and embracing the communities’ identities.
“We are thrilled to introduce community residents to these inspiring works created by local artists and chosen with the help of the people who will enjoy it every day,” said JTA CEO Nat Ford. “These works of art reflect the unique identity of this community and will be an enduring part of its cultural landscape for years to come.”
“We are proud of the incredibly talented artists who poured themselves into these works and have clearly reinvigorated the Soutel Hub,” said JTA Board of Directors Chair Debbie Buckland. “This shows that transit facilities do not have to be boring and uninspiring. For generations, this vibrant display will enhance our community’s atmosphere and highlight its gifted artists.”
